Overview

Giacomo Puccini‘s Madama Butterfly was performed for the first time on the Bregenz lake stage, directed by Andreas Homoki with sets designed by Michael Levine and costumes by Antony McDonald in 2022.
The stage, designed by Levine, takes the form of an old Japanese scroll painting thrown on the lake, representing the beauty of Japan, sculpted and lit by video projection across a surface the size of a football field.
